ART HUB AT DUBAI AIRPORT

No, there will never be a shortage of art inspiration across different continents and among diverse cultures.

I arrived at the airport in Dubai and walked around after being glued on the plane for 10 hours. I moved on aimlessly. Then I needed a drink, so I went along with a crowd in thobes (there should be a restaurant or store somewhere they are headed) 😊. Soon enough, on the far end, people started removing their shoes and slippers. I realized then that they were going to the prayer / worship room! 😂 Nyay! I slowly turned around and after a hundred steps more, tadaaa! I discovered an interesting preoccupation. There was an art hub showcasing local and international contemporary works right inside the airport. I have seen installations in different airports in Europe (which I think was common) and I didn’t reckon I would see an art exhibit here.

Most of the pieces were done by local artists, depicting mostly a powerful and symbolic expression of heritage. It was striking to see the rich and vibrant colours of most creations - contrary to my expectation. I was actually anticipating more subdued compositions. Since I was not so exposed with middle eastern paintings before, I honestly admit that this exhibit had my mind say hello to a different perspective of the place and its people. It was a beautiful introduction of some sort.

I was delighted to see how this field of cultural expression is well supported in this part of the world.

It was worthwhile to spend lay-over time in this hub, now I have to catch my next flight and get my much needed drink on the plane. 😀
