GENOA : A STEP AT A TIME

8 am on a cold and drizzly Sunday morning and the center of Genoa is still in slumber. Like a scene from a movie, I have the city all to myself, it’s a fresh morning and nobody is around but me and this little dove-y who obviously preferred walking than flying to cross the pedestrian lane with me. She might be expecting for some bread, but I have nothing on hand. Maybe next time deary!

Even the café’s along the way are either close or empty. With this lazy weather, every single soul in this city are cozy in bed. Of course! I would be too, but some things are much more important than being curled up in bed today.

I passed by a nice and quiet Palazzo Ducale.

With its smooth hills rising towards the sky, the corners of Genoa always come with a little drama. The architects of this city from eras of long ago undoubtedly mastered the art of creating stunning surprises that capture the interest of its visitors and arouse their curiosity to explore its details. This is exactly how it is captivating me right now.

I walked uphill from the narrow streets of the old town through via di Ravecca to via Eugenia Ravasco…

…and as I emerged to where Piazza di Carignano is, this beautiful renaissance church came to view. It is known as the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta.

As I strolled my way through a 2 km path, I noticed how the color of the surroundings were made more intense by the rain and the mediterranean hues of the buildings were even more beautiful with the budding greens of spring. I have never seen anything more orange than this part of the city.

I am a bit more acquainted now with this new residence. My growing fondness is motivated by everything I am learning about this great city, of how it is reminding me the value of independence, how it is teaching me the intricacies of living in a different country and finding home in it, everything that it is making me learn more about life and its idiosyncrasies. This time, from a different perspective.
